Privacy Policy

Dive Archive is a personal dive-logging app. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: Dive Archive has no servers, no user accounts, and no analytics or advertising of any kind — your dive data lives in your own iCloud account, full stop.

The short version

Your dive data lives in your own iCloud account, not on any server we operate — because we don't operate one. Dive Archive has no backend, no user accounts of our own, and no analytics or advertising SDKs of any kind. The only places your data goes are services you explicitly choose to connect: Apple Health, PADI, and Strava.

What data the app reads

• Dive computer data (Apple Health). With your permission, Dive Archive reads underwater depth and water temperature samples that your Apple Watch (or another HealthKit-connected dive computer) has already recorded to Health, to build your dive log. This requires your explicit HealthKit authorization, which you can revoke at any time in iOS Settings.
• Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location to identify or name a new dive site, and to look up historical air temperature and country/region information for a dive.
• Dive computer files you import. If you import a FIT, UDDF, or similar logbook file from Garmin, Suunto, or another dive computer, that file is read on your device to build the corresponding dive entries. The file itself is not uploaded anywhere by Dive Archive.

Where your data is stored

All dive data — sites, depths, times, conditions, equipment, notes, buddies — is stored in your private iCloud database via Apple's CloudKit, associated with your own Apple ID. We do not operate a server, and we do not have access to your dive data. If you use the app on more than one of your own devices, iCloud syncs the data between them the same way it syncs any other app's data.

Third-party services

To fill in details you didn't have to type yourself, Dive Archive requests public information from the following services. These requests contain no more personal data than the standard network information (such as your IP address) inherent to any internet connection:

• Apple WeatherKit — historical air temperature for a dive's date and location.
• Apple Maps geocoding — turning GPS coordinates into a site name, region, and country.

Third-party integrations (opt-in only)

Dive Archive can optionally connect to the following services, only if you sign in to them yourself from within the app:

• PADI. If you sign in with your PADI account, the app can pull your existing PADI logbook and push dives you've logged in Dive Archive up to your PADI logbook. Your PADI credentials are entered directly on PADI's own sign-in page — Dive Archive never sees your password, only the resulting session tokens, which are stored securely in your device's Keychain.
• Strava. If you sign in with your Strava account, the app can create Strava activities from dives detected on your dive computer, including a depth-profile chart. Sign-in uses Strava's own OAuth login page; Dive Archive never sees your Strava password, only the resulting access token, stored in your device's Keychain.

You can disconnect either integration at any time from Settings, which removes the stored tokens from your device.

Purchases

Dive Archive is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — there is no subscription or renewal. Dive Archive never sees or stores your payment details; your purchase status is managed by Apple and read on-device via Apple's StoreKit.

What we don't do

• We don't run analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind.
• We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
• We don't have an account system, login, or server of our own — there's nothing for us to store about you beyond what lives in your own iCloud account and, if you choose to connect them, PADI's and Strava's own systems under their own privacy policies.

Your choices

• HealthKit, Location, and each third-party integration are all opt-in and can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings or within the app.
• Deleting the app removes its local data; your dive history remains in your iCloud account unless you also delete it from the app (which removes it from iCloud too, since that's the only place it's stored).

Children's privacy

Dive Archive is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
